PREMIER STOFILE AND WELFARE MEC RECEIVE A WARM WELCOME AT ADDO

Eastern Cape Premier Makhenkesi Stofile says the government is working on plan to ensure that services and products of small medium and
micro economic initiatives can be effectively marketed. Premier Stofile says despite good government interventions to assist the setting up
of local economic development initiatives many of are not sustainable due to their inability to market and sell their products.

Premier said this in a meeting with representatives of various community development organisations at Addo today. The representatives met
the Premier and MEC for Welfare Ncumisa Kondlo at Samkelwe Senior Secondary School at Addo as part of a week-long government outreach
programme in the Tsitsikama district of the Eastern Cape.

The community representatives raised a range of needs and aspirations, which included: the provision of accommodation and facilities for
sewing and bakery projects, training of local producers to improve the quality of their products as well as financial support for Addo
community development initiatives. These initiatives include a community based-care model for older persons, a crche, a training programme
for people with disabilities, a construction of a one-stop shop that would serve as a workshop for all community development initiatives.

Some of arts and craft products were on display, most of which were recycled from waste products such as plastics. Their target markets
include tourists who visit a number of attractions in the area, which include the Addo Elephant Park.

The community was advised to set up a uniting structure that would facilitate greater cooperation among the various small groups in order
to make the best of the limited resources they might get from the government and other development support orgnisations. The Premier
appealed to all local organisations to assist in building markets for the services and products of the community development initiatives.
He said the difference would only be made if the whole society is working in unity for change.

Also commenting on the outlined needs, MEC for Welfare Ncumisa Kondlo commended the initiatives including the organisation of people with
disabilities as they would help eliminate dependency on the social security grants.
